Toward "ubiquitous network societies", wireless technologies of Japan have full potential to provide any information and service by one single mobile device. Since the world first 3G services started in 2001, they have evolved into advanced mobile broadband services in Japan (see "Evolution of Mobile Services in Japan").
These services have already been essential to daily life. According to the press releases of the Telecommunications Carrier Association (TCA) and the KDDI, the mobile broadband phones accounted for more than 97% of the Japanese mobile subscriptions in September 2011. Leading wireless technologies and solutions, Japan has been a pioneer in mobile broadband services.
The figure below shows an outlook of "ubiquitous network society" and its supporting wireless technologies and solutions, such as Broadband Wireless Access (WiMAX, XGP), Intelligent Transport Systems and Proximity Wireless (FeliCa, TransferJet). ARIB promotes wireless technologies and solutions through the support of ICT seminars and the participation in international exhibitions.
