General Description

For the system design of high definition television, reference images and reference viewing conditions are required to clarify the relationship between psychological responses and physical characteristics of images.

This technical report specifies recommended viewing conditions and reference images for a high definition television system which is a new television system to provide far higher sense of presence, intense and visual-psychological effects than conventional televisions

This technical report provides reference viewing conditions for subjective evaluation of high definition television and adjustment methods of displays for the conditions.

・Amendment of signal levels of +2% and -2% at 8 bits.

・Addition of signal levels of 10 bits (levels of +/-2% at 10 bits are shown in accordance with both the ITU-R Recommendation BT.814 and the ARIB Recommendation STD-B28)

3.2.2. P5 Amendment of measurement signals for a contrast ratio (in accordance with the amendment of the ITU-R Recommendation BT.815)

・Amendment regarding the line number for the effective scanning line number of 1080

・Amendment of changing the sample number to the one in the effective image area

・Addition of signal levels of 10 bits (a level of 50% at 10 bits is shown in accordance with both the ITU-R Recommendation BT.814 and the BT.1729)
