1. Overview

STD Number ARIB STD-B20
Standard Name Transmission System for Digital Satellite Broadcasting
Enactment Date 11.06.1998
General Description

This standard, specifying the transmission scheme for digital broadcasting of standard television broadcasting performed by the broadcasting satellite stations.

This standard was specified in compliance with "Ordinance to revise the whole of the standard transmission system for digital broadcasting in standard television broadcasting (Posts and Telecommunications Ordinance No.102 1999)" and "Ordinance to revise a part of the standard transmission system for digital broadcasting in standard television broadcasting(Posts and Telecommunications Ordinance No.46 2000). It is summarized in addition guidelines of operation and the reference materials.

This standard applies to the transmission system of broadcasting below,

satellite broadcasting stations performs standard television broadcasting in the frequency band of 11.7GHz - 12.2GHz, High-definition television, and Digital broadcasting of the data broadcasting(BS digital broadcasting) and standard television broadcasting of bandwidth 34.5MHz broadcast satellite stations performs in the frequency band of 12.2GHz - 12.75GHz, and Digital broadcasting of the data broadcasting(Broadband CS digital broadcasting).

 Keywords

Keyword Description
TMCC

Transmission and Multiplexing Configuration Control

Transmission mode (Modulation scheme, Coding rate) and the slot in the transmission multiplex control signal, information of the TS.

BPSK

Binary Phase Shift Keying

Modulation method of the phase of the carrier in correspondence to the in-phase (0 degree) and opposite phase (180 degrees). The information is transmitted 1bit in one symbol period.

QPSK

Quadrature Phase Shift Keying

The phase of the carrier is taken up in 90 degree intervals.

The information is transmitted 2bit in one symbol period.

Trellis-Coded 8PSK System Upon 8-phase modulation, method of performing error correction coding with respect to adjacent signal.
Convolutional code Coding scheme to reduce the errors in the encoded transmission path to another signal format while convolving the sign of the source of information in turn.
Reed-Solomon coding One method of block code for correcting errors in byte unit.
Power spread Method to avoid concentrating the energy to a specific frequency.
Interleave Techniques for transforming the average error by dispersing the error of the local digital signal.
