Overview of ARIB Technical Report (TR-B16)

1. Overview

TR Number ARIB TR-B16
Technical Report Name Stress Loading Test Method for SDI Systems
Enactment Date 07.25.2000
General Description

This technical report defines various stress to occur in a system which is made by connecting the digital video equipment based on the bit serial digital interface standard (SMPTE 259M, BTS 6431(10B1C)) used in a broadcasting studio.

It is intended to specify a measuring method for the stress allowance degree or the reliability of systems.

The stress testing method gives constant stress in video equipment or system in good condition at present to check if an error occurs.

The testing tells whether the targeted system is in a close condition to cause a trouble or in a stable condition to afford to work,

It is useful for an operation site where the system check is required.

The measuring method relating to a digital interface established so far includes “Measuring Method for Digital Video Signals at Serial Digital Interface (ARIB TR-B7 ver.1.0; enacted in November 1997).” And the method for measuring a video signal in the SDTV serial digital interface has been studied.

This technical report is achieved through experiment and examination to expand the method to the stress loading test method.

Please refer ARIB TR-B24 “Stress Loading Test Method for HD-SDI Systems” (ver.1.0 is enacted in July 2002) for the following matters.

The definition of various stress to occur in the system which is made by connecting the digital video equipment based on the HDTV serial digital interface (hereinafter referred to as HD-SDI) standard.

The measuring method for the stress allowance degree or the reliability of the HD-SDI systems.

 Keywords

Keyword Description
Cable extension stress

This is to examine what extent the attenuation of a signal caused by the stress of extension of a connection cable influences an error rate.

The stress to give includes 40 meters of 5C-2V coaxial cable, and a cable simulator for a 270Mbps component digital signal.

Level change stress

This is to give stress by changing of 10% of signal levels at the position of the transmission for DUT.

±10% change for TSG, -10% change for ATT

Noise addition stress

This is to examine whether there is noise tolerance specified in the serial digital standard including 259M.

The stress to give is a sine wave with specified frequency and amplitude from TSG which is connected to DUT through a cable in a few meters length.

The measurement is to see whether error data increase by stress.

SMPTE259M 10-Bit 4:2:2 Component and 4fsc Composite Digital Signals - Serial Digital Interface
BTS6431 (10B1C)

Abbreviation of Broadcast Technical Standard6431

This is the serial digital video interface by the parallel processing type 10B1C.

note) It is abolished in 2001.
