Overview of ARIB Technical Report (TR-B24)

1. Overview

TR Number ARIB TR-B24
Technical Report Name Stress Loading Test Method for HD-SDI Systems
Enactment Date 07.25.2002
General Description

This technical report defines various stresses to occur in a system which is made by connecting digital video equipment based on an HDTV serial digital interface (hereinafter referred to as HD-SDI) standard used in a broadcasting studio.

It is intended to specify a measuring method for the stress allowance degree or the reliability of the HD-SDI systems.

The stress testing method gives constant stress in video equipment or the system in good condition at present to check if an error occurs.

The testing tells whether the targeted system is in a close condition to cause a trouble or in a stable condition to afford to work,

It is useful for an operation site where the system check is required.

The measuring method relating to a digital interface established so far includes “Measuring Method for Digital Video Signals at Serial Digital Interface (ARIB TR-B7)” and “Stress Loading Test Method for SDI Systems (ARIB TR-B16)”.

And the method for measuring a video signal in the SDTV serial digital interface has been studied. This technical report is achieved through further experiment and examination to expand the method to the HD-SDI systems.

 Keywords

Keyword Description
HD-SDI

Abbreviation of High-Definition Television - Serial Digital Interface

This is the serial digital interface of 1.485Gbit/s for HDTV studio equipment specified in BTA S-004B and SMPTE 292M.

Cable extension stress

This is to examine what the attenuation of a signal caused by the stress of extension of a connection cable influences an error rate.

The stress to give includes 20 meters of a 5C-FB coaxial cable, a coaxial cable with same decrease characteristic and a cable simulator

Level change stress

This is to examine the influence of the change of the output level of a transmission upon the automatic equalizer of a reception.

The stress to give is -10% of signal level changes at the position of the transmission.

Noise addition stress

This is to examine the tolerance of the system upon the noise level specified in the HD-SDI standard.

The stress to give includes direct current, 5kHz, between 5kHz and 27MHz, and more then 27MHz

Jitter addition stress

This is to examine the tolerance of the system upon the jitter defined in the HD-SDI standard.

The stress to give is less than 1/10 of the clock frequency of; between 10Hz and 100kHz, and more than 100kHz.

BTA S-004B This is the standard for the bit series digital interface of the 1125/60 HDTV signal.
SMPTE 292M

Bit-Serial Digital Interface for High-Definition Television System

(This is the standard for bit serial digital interface standard for HDTV system.)
