Overview of ARIB Standards (STD-T109)

1. Overview

STD Number ARIB STD-T109
Standard Name 700 MHz Band Intelligent Transport Systems
Enactment Date 02.14.2012
General Description

In the autonomous type safety driving support system, there is a limit for the reduction of traffic accidents and the improvement of the environment due to a traffic jam, because information to be utilized is limited to vehicle information and onboard sensor information.

Therefore, the introduction of "a vehicle-infrastructure cooperative safety driving support system" to support safety driving is expected, through vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications with exchanging of information thereby leading to the prevention of traffic accidents.

This standard attains "a vehicle-infrastructure cooperative safety driving support system" using the operating frequency of 700MHz band that has become available due to the digitization of Terrestrial TV Broadcasting.

Also, this standard specifies an interface for a wireless section between land mobile stations, and between a land mobile station and a base station of the “Radio Equipment of 700 MHz band Intelligent Transport Systems” specified in the Article 49-22-2 of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment.

Noted that the reduction of the production cost and international standardization are also considered, for example by having the compatibility with the European and United States specifications with regard to the physical layer among the specifications specified in this standard.

2. Amendment History

Ver. Amendment or Enactment Date Amendment summary
1.3 07.27.2017 In accordance with the law revision for enhancing the 700MHz band Intelligent Transport System, this amendment additionally specifies the inter-roadside communications as well as the existing roadside-to-vehicle communications and inter-vehicle communications. This enables the wide area dissemination of road traffic information and the development of resilient ITS infrastructures.
1.2 12.10.2013 In order to prevent inconsistency to occur in the interpretation of this standard subject matter, SDL diagrams are additionally described as a description article. (SDL is a specification language that has become the international standard defined by ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunications Standardization Sector) Recommendations Z.100.)
1.1 12.18.2012

(1) Notification of MIC which "defines the person who manages the identification code that radio equipment of the land mobile station of 700MHz band Intelligent Transport System automatically transmits or receives", and (2) Notification of MIC which "defines technical requirements for radio equipment to be used in radio stations of 700MHz band Intelligent Transport System" were promulgated by MIC in December, 2012.

This standard is revised to correspond to the Notifications of MIC above mentioned.
