Overview of Standards and Technical Reports

Overview of ARIB Standards (STD-T90)

1. Overview

STD Number ARIB STD-T90
Standard Name 950MHz-Band RFID Equipment for Specified Low Power Radio Station
Enactment Date 03.14.2006
General Description

This standard specifies requirements for the radio equipment for mobile object identification using radio waves in the frequency between 952MHz above and 955MHz and below defined in the Paragraph 3 of Article 49-14 of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment among specified low power radio stations defined in the Article 6 of the Regulation for Enforcement of the Radio Act (The related Notification No. 42, 1989, Revision by No. 52, 2006).

The subject system is low-output UHF band electronic tag system and introduces the common use technology for effective use of radio waves (transmission time control, carrier sense, etc.). The technical requirements for radio equipment consisting of interrogator, antenna and transponder are specified. While communications protocol (specification concerning interconnection) between interrogator and transponder is not specified in this standard.

In addition, regarding privacy protection and prevention of radio wave impact on medical devices, this standard develops “Operational guidelines for 950MHz-Band RFID Equipment for Specified Low Power Radio Station” expecting appropriate actions based on “Research report on radio impact on medical devices” by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and “Guidelines on the protection of privacy for electronic tag” developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Operational guidelines is attached as a reference material

As defined in the interim measures for the laws and regulations in 2010, equipment which acquired certification of technical regulations conformity or certification of construction type based on the provisions prior to the revision of the laws and regulations (May 24,2010) before March 31, 2013 is subject to the Version 2.0 not Version 2.1 of this standard.

It is noted that this standard is valid until March 31, 2018.
