Overview of ARIB Standards (STD-T96)

1. Overview

STD Number ARIB STD-T96
Standard Name 950 MHz-Band Telemeter, Telecontrol and Data Transmission Radio Equipment for Specified Low Power Radio Station
Enactment Date 06.06.2008
General Description

Among the low-power radio stations defined in Article 6 of the Regulations for Enforcement of Radio Law (the Notification No.42 of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, 1986, Revised Notification No.54 of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, 2010), this standard specifies on the telemeter, telecontrol and data transmission radio equipment that uses the frequency of 954MHz or more and 955MHz or less specified in Article 49-14, Clause 6 of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment, and the frequency of 950MHz or more and 956MHz or less specified in Article 49-14, Clause 7 of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment.

The intended system is a UHF band active tags system, and a sharing technology (transmission time control, carrier sense, and the like) contributing to effective use of radio waves is introduced.

Note that this standard specifies the technical requirements of radio equipment consisting of an interrogator, an antenna, and a responder, while it does not specify communication protocols between the interrogator and the responder (a standard for interoperability).

Also, for prevention of privacy protection and the influence on medical equipment, "The operation guidelines of the radio devices for the specified low-power radio stations for 950MHz band telemeter, telecontrol and data transmission radio equipment " are prepared and attached as reference materials, proposing that the appropriate accommodation is desirable along with "A research report on the influence of radio waves on medical equipment, and the like" designed by MIC and "Privacy protection guidelines for the RFID Tags" designed by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, respectively.

As is established in the Interim Measures of Laws and Ordinances of 2010, based on the specifications before the laws and ordinances amendment of May 24, 2010, the equipment which received the technical conditions compliance approval or the construction design authentication before March 31, 2013 does not conform to the standard described in version 1.1 but to the standard described in version 1.0.

Note that expiration date of this ARIB Standard is until March 31, 2018.

The suppression of ARIB STD-T96

1.1 07.15.2010

(1) Necessary revision corresponding to the Revision of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment of May, 2010 (addition of expansion of a designated frequency band, the simultaneous use of up to five channels, and the like) is made.

(2) To avoid mutual interference among "950MHz-Band RFID Equipment for Premises Radio Station (ARIB STD-T89)"; "950MHz-Band RFID Equipment for Specified Low Power Radio Station (ARIB STD-T90)"; and "950MHz-Band RFID Equipment for Convenience Radio Station(STD-T100)" which newly starts its operation in conjunction with Revision of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment of May, 2010, each of them being operated in the same frequency band, a channel plan recommended for each system operation is stated clearly.
