This standard specifies the structure and the transmission method of supplemental signals transmitted with a packet type used by bit serial interface of the 525/60 television systems.
This standard specifies the method with which the usual data of non video are multiplexed and transmitted in the part without the effective video area of bit serial digital interface, and corresponds to SMPTE 291M.
This standard is applied to apparatuses with which supplemental signals are transmitted with the packet type in the 10 bit serial interface of 4:2:2 component signals and 4fsc composite signals in compliance with the standard of SMPTE 259M.

|1.2||12.18.2012||This standard defines the common specifications of supplemental signals in the 10 bit serial interface of 4:2:2 component signals and 4fsc composite signals in compliance with the standard of SMPTE 259M. This standard was in compliance with SMPTE (The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) ST 291, however this standard is amended in accordance with the amendment of classification on data identification number to identify the categories of data transmitted by supplemental packets, the clarification of a application method from organizations besides SMPTE regarding the data identification number and the second data identification number, and the amendment of supplemental signals outside the standard and the abolishment of start packets and end packets of the supplemental signal outside the standard, in accordance with the amendment of SMTPE ST 291.|
